Integration with Xbox Live on the way - is Windows Mobile next?
Microsoft has revealed that its Zune entertainment brand/service will be made available across multiple platforms, raising the prospect of Zune-powered content on mobile phones.
There has been much speculation about whether or not Microsoft would take the plunge and build (or commission) some kind of Zune phone to head off competition from iPhone.
Now it seems Zune could become an on-device content channel for Windows Mobile-powered handsets, with Microsoft confirming overnight that the brand would begin a cross-platform expansion on Xbox Live globally in the autumn.
Enrique Rodriguez, corporate vice president of the Microsoft TV, Video and Music Business Group, said: “The Zune music player is an integral part of the overall Zune experience, and we’re proud to be growing and extending our offering beyond the device."
Seperately, Microsoft has also unveiled Zune HD, which will be launched this autumn and combine a built-in HD Radio receiver, high-definition (HD) video output capabilities, organic light-emitting diode (OLED) touch screen, Wi-Fi and an internet browser.
