MGM Grand to launch casino app for iPhone

Branded games meet interactive resort tour, but it's all just for fun.

The MGM Grand at Foxwoods casino will soon release a branded iPhone application that aims to promote the resort to iPhone-owning gamblers.

The app will include a suite of casino games, according to TechCrunch. With remote gambling still illegal in the US, these are certain to be play-for-fun games, rather than real-money gambling.

However, it seems the app is as much about enticing users to visit the real-world casino itself. There'll be a resort tour showing off its hotel rooms, restaurants, shops and spas, as well as tips on how to play the casino's table games.

Casino games have always been a popular genre on mobile, and there's no shortage of Blackjack, poker and slot machine games on the App Store. However, the MGM branding could help its (presumably free) app cut through.

Gambling brands are increasingly interested in iPhone, even if they can't offer real-money gambling. Recently, Million-2-1 launched a play-for-fun iPhone version of slot machine game Cleopatra.
