Interestingly, the app allows fans to buy MP3s, but not from iTunes...
Metal band Metallica have released a 99 cent iPhone app in support of their ongoing World Magnetic tour.
It's intended as a mobile companion to the LiveMetallica.com website, from which the band has selling DRM-free audio recordings of its gigs immediately after the show.
This particular metalhead ME contributor has used the site a few times himself - it can be considered quite forward thinking for a band that once railed against file-sharing etc.
According to the blurb, the Live Metallica App allows users to 'stream the latest show for free and listen to samples of over 5,000 live songs from over 300 shows'.
The most interesting element is the ability to purchase MP3 downloads via the App, stream them to the iPhone, with a dual download via the user's account to a desktop computer.
