Aims to help brands make apps configured to user's location, network connection, battery life and more.
Billing specialist mBlox says this launch is the culmination of four year's work and 'millions and millions' of pounds of investment.
It describes the platform as 'the industry’s first secure, cloud-based, mobile app enabling service', and believes it will help bring about a new era of intelligent network-connected apps.
For brands, this will present the chance to develop personalised comms with users, which can be tweaked in real time to make downloads faster, cheaper and optimised for network conditions.
Specifically, the enablers support the following features:
* Send only via wi-fi
* Check signal strength before download
* Check battery life before download
* Pre-push downloads when networks are not congested, and pre-select a 'publish' time
* Secure message delivery
* Wake up 'dormant' apps
* Location-based downloads
* Payment and campaign management services
mBlox will initially target global Fortune 500 companies, and expects to have deals within weeks.
Andrew Bud, chairman of mBlox, said reaction has been fantastic. "Their enthusiasm surpasses anything we've seen before," he said.
"If you have the right enablers, you can create easier and more compelling customer experiences – and this is exactly what brands are looking for.
The technology has been made possible by the emergence of smartphones using open native platforms, and the availability of new network APIs.
While developers could have coded some of this smart enabling functionality into their apps, mBlox claims this would be 'really hard' and that its platform eases the process.
mBlox will supply a SDK that publishers can code into their apps to open up these smart enablers. It says business models will be on a case-by-case basis.
It adds that they will be complementary to emerging operator APIs from the likes of O2/Bluevia.
Today, the firm launched the first in the smart enablers suite – a secure text product.
This enables firms to send encrypted SMS messages that can be timed to delete, deleted when read and more. mBlox is aiming the product and banks, healthcare and other security-conscious parties.
