Maxim magazine has teamed up with Peekaboo TV to launch its first user gen service.
The platform will eventually be used across Dennis Publishing's portfolio but is being trialled first with what is the world's biggest men's magazine.Initially, its primary aim is to power Maxim’s Little Black Book, a very successful publishing idea that makes glamour stars out of 'real' girls. In time, Dennis will apply the concept to other services such as Maxim's ‘Stupid Fun’ and Bizarre magazine’s ‘Bizarre Beauties’.
Users can create their own account via a Web site (www.maximmag.co.uk/lbb) or Wap site (text MAXIM to 80011), from where they can personalise their content and categorise it by genre. Then, the more people who view their content, the higher the reward.
The service will also allow Dennis to build consumer communities for their publications, making money and building reader loyalty. Matt Jerwood, head of mobile for Dennis Publishing, said: “the Peekaboo service is great. We think that Maxim readers will love the true reality of this form of real girl content, and we’re actually giving girls a platform to make themselves famous through Maxim’s digital channels, as well as in print.”
David Berney, MD of the PeekaBoo Group added: “By bringing like-minded individuals together we are providing brand partners with a large pool of targeted consumers hungry for user-generated content. There’s nothing stopping individuals joining this new army of bloggers who are making money from their creative work”.

PeekaBoo provides a medium that allows anyone with a Paypal account to be rewarded for the video content they create, and the service works on almost all handsets and any network. Users can monitor how their clips are doing and how much cash or credits they have earned instantly with a range of pie charts to illustrate this. The amount of cash users can earn is unlimited and uploads can be done over the web so PeekaBooTV links in perfectly with existing video blogs or forums.
