Fast food restaurant hits the hallowed milestone in under a year.

The Grapple-built McDonald's UK app has notched up more than one million downloads across iOS and Android, with users collectively opening the app more than 10m times.

Ten per cent of customers return to the app each month, and app usage rates spike between 12-2pm and 5-7pm each day, clearly with a desire to sate their lunch and dinner needs.

Meanwhile, the mobile-optimised fast food site has been visited more than 10m times since July 2011.

Mel Savage, head of young adult marketing, McDonald’s UK, said: "Mobile is proving to be a powerful channel to not only increase footfall to restaurants, but also provide easy access to additional information such as promotions, menus and nutrition information when customers are actually in our restaurants."

Adam Levene, chief strategy officer, Grapple, said: "The application is perfectly executed, designed to provide exactly what the customer wants, when they need it most – proof that customer utility is the key component to the success of brands on mobile."
