MACH debuts in-app operator billing in Germany

Firm's Direct Billing Gateway launched across the four main German mobile networks.

MACH is the payments giant that works with fixed and mobile telephony firms, and has recently diversified into the app space.

With this deal, it will enabling direct operator billing for more than 80m mobile subscribers across the country – a first for Germany.

German subscribers will be able to buy apps or in-app extras in a 1-click process, with the fee going on the phone bill.

Meanwhile the app stores and content providers can offer operator billing without the need to set up individual agreements with the individual German operators.

The Direct Billing Gateway improves on previous solutions for operator billing such as reverse-billed SMS or re-direction to WAP payment pages.

Charles Damen, VO of mobile content and apps at MACH, said: “MACH is providing the glue that will unite application stores, content providers and merchants with operators and simplify the apps ecosystem in Germany.

"Furthermore, the direct operator billing service enables real-time monitoring of transactions and flexible pricing points, and will bring true e-commerce functionality to apps propositions when compared to the old P-SMS environment.”
