LoveFilm launches Android app

Account management but no mobile streaming availability.

Online film streaming service LoveFilm has revealed its first app for the Android OS, which allows users to monitor their accounts on the move by accessing rental lists and film information.

Undoubtedly this will be disappointing news for those expecting a smartphone streaming option but as it stands that platform will remain limited to the likes of iPad, laptops, TV and PS3.

Currently the dearest package costs £14.99 per month but it's likely a smartphone option would see this increase, if and when mobile streaming does arrive.

The announcement follows our report on fellow streaming service Netflix, which is launching in the UK and Ireland next month.

LoveFilm will also need to keep an eye on Android not just for progress of its app but because the Google-owned OS has also launched a movie store.
