LinkedIn revamps its iPhone and Android apps and launches HTML5 site

Mobile traffic has quadrupled in the last year for business-focused social network.

Business social network LinkedIn has released significant updates for its iPhone and Android apps, while launching an HTML5 mobile website that works across a range of handsets.

The company claims its new apps are "between two and ten times faster" across all features, with the aim of being speedier to use for business people dashing from meeting to meeting.

The apps have also been reorganised around four key features for mobile users: updates from their network, their messaging inbox, their own profile and connections, and LinkedIn groups.

Meanwhile, the new mobile website can be accessed at touch.linkedin.com, currently from iPhone and Android handsets, although as more smartphones get HTML5-capable browsers, that will expand.

The moves come as LinkedIn reveals sharp growth for its mobile offering. "LinkedIn Mobile page views have grown more than 400% year-over-year, making it the fastest growing consumer service on LinkedIn," blogs senior product manager Chad Whitney.
