LinkedIn releases v3.0 of its iPhone app

The Facebook for business looks a lot more like... Facebook!

It's perhaps apt that on the day really keen businesspeople return to work, champing at the bit to clear their inboxes for 2010, LinkedIn has updated its iPhone app to version 3.0.

It's a pretty significant upgrade, too, giving the application (App Store link) a spiffing new user interface. Specifically, the spiffing new user interface seen earlier this year in Facebook's iPhone app.

Okay, that's a bit snarky, but it's fair to say LinkedIn has borrowed the 12-icon homescreen from Facebook v3.0, providing a neater way for LinkedIn users to find their way around its app.

New features include the ability to filter updates from your favourite contacts, reconnect with people you might know on the network, and Bluetooth-based contact-swapping when you meet other users in person.

Consumer social networks like Facebook and MySpace have enjoyed big boosts from their mobile apps, so LinkedIn will be hoping its iPhone refresh has a similar effect on its usage.
