LinkedIn gears up for in-app ads

Comes on the back of 105 per cent revenue rise in Q4.

The business-based social network doesn't have nearly as many users as the likes of Facebook and Twitter due to its strict enterprise focus.

However, its Q4 earnings in 2011 reached $167.7 million, up from $81.7 million in Q4 2010.

This has led Jeff Weiner, CEO, LinkedIn to say the firm is ready to "start to introduce advertising in our mobile solutions."

Additionally, Weiner said mobile is LinkedIn’s fastest-growing area, which accounts for 15 per cent of LinkedIn’s unique member visits, ensuring investment will certainly be on the way.

LinkedIn's CardMunch platform - an app that scans business cards for smartphones - has scanned two million cards, while activations across iOS and Android are experiencing a "sharp rise" with "very healthy rates."
