LG ups its smartphone sales targets

Korean vendor targeting 6m units this year - 70% of line-up will be Android

LG has revised its smartphone sales forecasts upwards as part of an overhaul of its mobile phone business that will see it's overall device line-up reduced from 145 to 75 models.

The Korea Times cites an unnamed LG executive, who stated that the company will sell 6 million smartphones this year - 4.2 million Android-based units and 1.8 million Windows Mobile units.

A key product for the company appears to be its Optimus series, with discussions ongoing with operators in the US and Europe to boost its sales.

LG hopes a more focused line-up and increased smartphone sales will help it gain ground on local rival Samsung, after suffering heavy losses in the April-June quarter.
