LG unveils media-flicking Optimus 7 smartphone

Its first Windows Phone 7 handset will support DLNA media sharing.

LG has been showing off its first Windows Phone 7 smartphone, the Optimus 7.

The company has talked up the handset's multimedia sharing technology, which lets users wirelessly stream music, videos and photos from the Optimus 7 to other devices, including TVs.

In fact, they "literally flick" content from the handset to the devices, using the touchscreen interface.

LG is using the DLNA standard for this sharing, which streams the content over Wi-Fi. It says more than 240 consumer electronics brands are adopting the standard.

"This unique feature is a direct response to the growing need for technologies that empower users to share multimedia content across electronic devices," says LG's VP of mobile handset R&D Center Seong-jin Park.
