LG Optimus offers world’s first 3D AR browser

Augmented reality even more augmented.

LG got together with Wikitude for this one. Wiki's existing 2D AR places tags on the screen and overlaps them when they are close to each other.

But with 3D, these overlaps will be easier to distinguish.

Wikitude includes info on over 100 million locations around the world, with support in 12 languages. Optimus users can download it from the LG World app store from June.

“AR technology has been praised for its potential to replace the ‘abstract’ realities of standard mobile browsers with ‘actual’ reality streamed through the camera of the smartphone,” said Dr Jong-seok Park, CEO of LG Mobile.

“LG’s cutting-edge hardware and 3D API software technology now pushes this reality a step further.”

The LG Optimus 3D works without glasses and can record as well as display 3D.

It will be available this summer starting in Europe followed by other markets around the world.
