Revises 2011 estimate down from 30m to 24m.
It's self-evidently not a great year for the Korean handset maker, which seems to be falling behind the rampant Samsung and HTC in the Android OEM space.
The company sold 50 million phones in the first half of the year, 10 million of which were smartphones.
Meanwhile the overall target for all phone sales has slipped by 24 per cent from 150 million down to 114 million.
These disappointing sales are expected to result in a fifth consecutive quarterly loss for LG when it announces its financials in a few weeks.
LG has been in a slump since the glory days of 2007/8 when its Chocolate and Shine phones were among the best selling devices in the market.

But the firm was late to catch on to the Android train so expertly ridden by Samsung and HTC in particular. And now the competition is being heated up by budget entrants like ZTE and Huawei.
Its Optimus range launched last year, and has just been updated in a 3D glasses-free version. But the brand is nowhere near matching the success of Samsung Galaxy, for example.
