Layar set to ramp up its US activities

Augmented reality startup building its presence stateside.

Layar has become one of the leading lights in the mobile augmented reality space, and now the Dutch startup is aiming to make a splash in the US.

Co-founder Claire Boonstra (pictured) has published a blog post that touches on the company's plans.

"In the months towards building up a permanent Layar presence in the Bay Area, you will see one of us Layar founders and Management Team around more frequently," she writes.

Layar is hosting a workshop at PayPal's X Innovate event in San Francisco tomorrow, and took part in the keynote session yesterday at the conference.

With augmented reality a buzz area for the mobile industry, it makes sense for Layar to have a more high-profile presence on the West Coast of the US - to attract developers, strike more technology licensing deals, and also be front-of-mind for VCs and potential acquirers.

Layar is also hiring an 'Augmented Reality Strategist', whose job will involve building the company's profile with developers, brands and the wider mobile industry.
