Competition for iBooks and Kindle.
E-books service Kobo has announced that its iPad app now has new regional versions for Canada, the UK and Australia, with New Zealand to follow soon.
It's part of a global rollout for the app, which is also available in other countries where iPad is going on sale today (albeit with un-localised versions).
Kobo's localised apps will let people pay in their local currencies. They'll also come with five free e-books preloaded. The apps will provide competition for Apple's own iBooks and Amazon's Kindle app for iPad.
"We’re excited for iPad owners around the world to experience Kobo on this amazing device," says Kobo CEO Michael Serbinis.
"Our customers around the world can read free books and hot new bestsellers on our new iPad app, access their existing libraries and make new purchases from the Kobo store."

Like Amazon, Kobo also has a hardware e-reader, and also like Amazon, it lets customers read their purchased e-books across a range of devices and platforms.
