Cheeky news feed feature directing its iPad users to the Kobo web store.
When Apple introduced new rules on purchasing content outside its iOS ecosystem recently, numerous apps had to release updates removing links to external stores. E-reader apps were particularly affected, including Amazon's Kindle, Barnes & Noble's nook and Kobo.
Well, Kobo appears to have found a way around the new rules, although for how long is anyone's guess.
The Digital Reader has the details: Kobo has added a news feed feature to its iPad app, which pulls in blog posts from the company about its service. And would you believe it: the top story in the news feed has links to Kobo's e-books store - the very links that Apple has banned from apps.
Now that the workaround has been reported on, ME expects that Apple will take action of some kind, although it remains to be seen whether that is simply a stern warning for Kobo to remove the news stories, or an outright ban on its app.
