Promises to support the BlackBerry PlayBook too.

E-books service Kobo expects rapid growth this year, thanks to preload partnerships with more than a dozen device makers and mobile operators.

"We estimate that Kobo will be preloaded on over 20 million devices this year," says CEO Michael Serbinis (pictured), explaining that tablets will be a big part of this growth.

"As the only pure-play service in the space, our strategy has always been to make eReading available on any device, and our open-platform eReading applications and eBook store have proven to be popular among tablet OEMs looking to offer eReading to their customers."

Currently, Kobo's e-reading app is available on various smartphones, and tablets including iPad and Samsung's Galaxy Tab.

The company says RIM's BlackBerry PlayBook is one of the new devices it will support in 2011. It is also working with Freescale, which is demonstrating its app at the CES show in Las Vegas this week.

"We are excited with the new partnerships that we have in our pipeline for 2011, and the opportunities these present to bring eReading with Kobo to millions of partner customers around the world," says Serbinis.
