Even though almost half of consumers plan to shop with them.
Mobile rich media provider Zmags and research firm Hawk Partners say the top 100 internet retailers are hugely unprepared to cater to consumers that buy via smartphones and tablets.
Fewer than a third of retailers have tablet-optimised websites, citing that standard websites are "adequate enough" for consumers to use.
Meanwhile, more than half have have developed smartphone-specific shopping options, suggesting retailers view mobiles as a better way to engage shoppers.
Additionally, over two-thirds have developed iPhone apps, though just half of that number has an in-app purchase option.
W. Sean Ford, COO and CMO, Zmags, said: "Only one quarter of retailers are ready to take a consumer through checkout over tablets, but 49 per cent of today's tablet owners said they plan to shop even more next year using their device.

"This reflects a serious disconnect between how consumers want to shop and the inconsistent experiences they are being offered. It's a crucial issue that retailers need to address before their competitors do."
