Juniper hails $9.5bn mobile cloud apps bonanza by 2014

Now that's what we call blue sky thinking.

Juniper Research has released a new report claiming that mobile cloud application revenues will top $9.5 billion by 2014.

The report suggests that widespread adoption of mobile broadband and new technologies like HTML5 and Smart Card Web Server will fuel this growth in revenues.

Is it an entertainment thing? Possibly not initially. Juniper reckons that enterprise apps will account for the majority of mobile cloud app revenues in the next five years.

However, as time goes on it predicts that cloud-based games and social networking services will become more important, driving subscription and advertising revenues respectively.

Author Dr Windsor Holden warns that providers of cloud-based apps must get their security and backup strategies sorted to make the most of the growth.

“Not only is it imperative for cloud providers to ensure that access to and storage of customer data is secure, but that the procedures that they put in place in this regard – including data backup strategies – are transparent to the customer.”
