Apple v Motorola is just one of many suits in a tangled mess of litigation arising from the fierce competition in smartphones.
But now a Chicago judge has dismissed the case 'with prejudice', meaning neither company can refile in that court. Apple can appeal, however. And experts think it will.
Judge Posner had dismissed the case and then changed his mind, but finally he dismissed again after excluding testimony from Apple's damages expert witness.
Apple had attempted to assert 15 patents against Motorola.
It's just one case in many also involving HTC, Samsung, Microsoft and others.
