Jobs go as THQ Wireless restructures

Seventy-five per cent of staff served notice as unit refocuses on high-end platforms.

THQ is restructuring its mobile division to focus on high-end games for iPhone, N-Gage, PSP and DS.

Unfortunately, ME understands this has seen 75 per cent of the THQ Wireless workforce across three offices in the US and Europe made redundant, equivalent to about a hundred people.

Contrary to innacurate reports elsewhere there are still people working in the US office.

In Europe, some staff have already left, while others are remaining on board to ensure the delivery of finished and nearly-finished games.

Irresponsible rumour-mongering on a consumer games website yesterday suggested - completely inaccurately -  that parent THQ had closed its doors.

The company has had problems, however, and began making cutbacks in Europe last November. The company shut its Australian office yesterday too, ME understands.

It's certainly tough times in mobile games right now, with Vivendi Games Mobile shutting its doors back in November.

However, earlier today THQ Wireless rival Gameloft posted a 15 per cent increase in FY08 revenues.
