A mobile version of Second Life is coming to Japan, via NTT DoCoMo.

DoCoMo is currently Beta testing a service targeted at users of DoCoMo FOMA 700 and 900 3G handsets. Reports suggest a free version of the mobile phone Second Life will be equipped with some main functions, such as moving about for easy inspection, retrieval, teleport, Second Life map and chat.

Second Life is, of course, an online virtual world populated by avatars and with its own currency. The site has been seized upon by brands as a cutting edge medium for reaching consumers. It is said to have 10m subscribers, although many are dormant and some people have multiple accounts. Suggested launch date for the mobile version is mid-December.
