UK singer Jamelia is to bolster the entertainment factor at next month's 3GSM show with a special performance for delegates.
The star, whose hits include Thank You and Superstar, will follow in the footsteps of another UK recording artist Craig David, who performed at last year's event. Her appearance reflects the extent to which 3GSM has evolved from a pure telecoms event to one which embraces entertainment.Last year 3GSM moved to Barcelona for the first time and attracted over 50,000 delegates. The expectation is that the turnout will be even greater this year. Among the new entertainment-oriented elements of the event will be the collaboration with Robert Redford's Sundance Institute to present the 'Global Short Film Project', which will premiere five films by six independent filmmakers during the opening ceremony.
Elsewhere, the Mobile Entertainment Summit is now a dedicated stream throughout each day of the congress agenda. Sessions will include a focus on sport, music and mobile TV and feature over 35 speakers from across the value chain including operators, vendors and global entertainment distributors that include Warner Music, EMI and MTV.
2007 will also see the launch of the Mobile Entertainment & Content Zone in Hall 7. Visitors will be able to download content via Bluetooth and USB at a number of exhibition booths, including exclusive access to the movie shorts from the Global Short Film Project at the Sundance Institute stand. The Seminar Theatre in Hall 7 will feature the discussion of hot topics and product/service launches.
Then there's 3GSMTV, the Web TV channel dedicated to the 3GSM World Congress that will broadcast behind the scenes interviews with industry execs.
