The Crazy Frog, who brought so much displeasure to millions, is no more: He has croaked.
The legendary mobile content amphibian has passed away peacefully in his sleep, said D2C firm Jamba in an exclusive interview with ME magazine.Mauro Montanaro, CEO of Jamba, confirmed to ME that the Frog is no more. “Yes, he’s dead. Well, we’re not marketing him any more,” he said.
Little had been heard from the industry’s first star since he fell out of favour with the public in 2006. That was after he became a global sensation, and even a chart topping pop star (although Jamba only ever owned the mobile rights to the character).
However, the Crazy Frog also became associated with bad publicity relating to content subscriptions, which resulted in a clampdown by regulators during 2006.
Jamba is now left with cherished memories. “He was the first real star of mobile content,” said Montanaro, “and he helped promote our industry to the public. Yes, some people found him annoying, but I’d be happy to have three more Crazy Frogs.”

* No need to get too upset. Versions of the Crazy Frog ringtone appear to be available from small D2C services.
