Is Zynga worth more than EA?

SharesPost estimate puts social games giant above console firm for valuation.

Social games firm Zynga has enjoyed a meteoric rise, but could the company now be worth more than console publisher Electronic Arts?

Some say yes. A site called SharesPost which tracks sales of shares in privately-held companies (like Zynga) claims that the company's current valuation is $5.51 billion.

EA's current valuation, based on the Nasdaq stock market, is $5.16 billion.

Industry analyst Atul Bagga tells Business Week that the comparison "is not that crazy, given what's going on in the market" - pointing to the explosion in virtual goods.

However, EA also has a toehold in that market, having acquired Playfish late last year. Both companies are also active in the mobile gaming industry, where EA is the largest publisher, but Zynga is building up its presence.
