iPhone users will be able to stream live NFL matches to their handset next season. Well, some iPhone users...
The matches will be watchable using DirecTV's Supercast Mobile iPhone application, which is already available in the App Store.
However, there are a number of restrictions, according to Business Insider. For starters, the matches can only be streamed by DirecTV satellite TV subscribers who've signed up for $380 worth of NFL channel packages already.
Plus, there will be local blackouts, meaning that certain games won't be streamable according to the viewer's zip code. That's likely to mean games involving local teams will be blocked.
That's a niche, then. It shows how the emerging area of streaming live sporting events to mobile handsets is still restricted by existing deals in the offline broadcasting world.
