iPhone subsdies could boost Apple revs

Operator subsidies for iPhone could increase Apple’s rev by over $100 on each phone sold.

Analysts say that, although the consumer will be paying about $200 less for each device with the coming price changes, subsidies may total more than $300 a phone, giving Apple the extra ton. Based on projected sales of between 35 million and 45 million before the end of 2010, that could add $4 billion to Apple's top line.

The change is expected to result from Apple changing its strategy and requiring a service contract from consumers at the time of sale. The aim is to reduce the number of buyers who unlock their phones.

Apple's iPhone 3G goes on sale on July 11th.
