More than half of US smartphone users have their eyes on Apple’s iPhone 3G.

Fifty-six per cent of American consumers thinking of buying a smartphone in the next three months want Apple's device, reports The Register.

In a survey of 3,600 people conducted by RBC Capital Markets, over 2,000 said they would be interested in buying the new iPhone, citing better connectivity and prices as the main factors in their increased attraction to the brand.

Rival BlackBerry was the second most desired phone, grabbing the attention of 23 per cent of those surveyed, with only three per cent saying they would buy a Palm phone.

With such positive results, RBC analyst Mike Abramsky is forecasting a boom in iPhone sales with a year-on-year growth of over 100 per cent.
