Also supports Palm webOS smartphones.
Remember the almighty hoo-ha last year when Apple refused to approve the Google Voice telephony app for iPhone and iPod touch?
Well, Google has sidestepped the problem by releasing it as a web app for those devices instead - as well as Palm's webOS Pre and Pixi smartphones.
It's a HTML5 application that lets people make calls from their phone using their Google Voice number, as well as listen to their voicemails and read voicemail transcripts, and send and receive free text messages.
Shortcut icons can be added to the iPhone or Palm homescreen for key features like Inbox, Dialer and Compose SMS.
"And because the Google Voice web app uses advanced features of modern HTML5 browsers, it offers native app-like performance and speed," says the blog post announcing the news.

The downside of a web app is that it's not running in the background, so users can't receive calls or be notified when a text arrives.
Even so, it's the latest example of Google's determination to push the boundaries of what web apps are capable of - while thumbing its nose at Apple's approval policy into the bargain.
The app is only available to existing Google Voice users in the US at this point. A demo of the new web app is embedded below:
