By the time developer Manomio had realised there was a bug, the app was gone.

iPhone's first Commodore 64 emulator has been swiftly pulled from the App Store, after users figured out how to access the app's BASIC programming language.

The feature had been blocked by developer Manomio at Apple's request, but according to Pocket Gamer there was a loophole involving setting the keyboard to 'always on', launching a game and then restarting BASIC.

It's bad news for Manomio, which had seen its emulator soar into the Top 20 paid games chart on the App Store after a lengthy development, including discussions with Apple about what it would and would not allow in the app.

The developer says it has submitted a new build of the emulator with the BASIC completely removed, but it's unclear when (or indeed if) the new version will be approved.

It's also a lesson to developers - if you do get personal access to Apple staff to get your app through the approvals process, and they ask you to take a feature out, it's probably best to take it out entirely.
