But AdMob's latest Mobile Metrics Report finds that iPod touch owners are even keener.

iPhone and Android users download approximately ten new apps every month, according to mobile ad network AdMob's latest Mobile Metrics Report.

However, they're put in the shade by owners of Apple's iPod touch, who download an average of 18 apps per month, according to AdMob's stats. Meanwhile, users who regularly download paid apps are spending around $9 a month on five paid downloads.

The report also claims that more than half of iPhone and Android users spend more than 30 minutes a day using apps on their devices, while more than 90% browse and search for apps on their devices (unsurprising for Android, which doesn't have an associated web-store).

AdMob's report also compares the different smartphone platforms in terms of usage of its ad network, saying that in the US in July, iPhone accounted for 60%, followed by BlackBerry handsets with 13%, and Android devices with 12%.

In June, these platforms accounted for 64%, 14% and 9% respectively, indicating that Android is gaining ground on its two rivals.
