Apple mines Project Gutenberg to ensure its literature offering gets off to a flying start

AppAdvice.com reports that Apple will be offering more than 30,000 free ebooks on the iPad's iBooks store when the device launches on April 3rd.

The titles are all public domain and have been procured from the Project Gutenburg, which is an online repository of free ebooks for the PC, iPhone, Kindle, Sony Reader etc.

AppAdvice says it made the discovery while taking a sneaky peak at the iBook store, which also revealed that the price points may not be as high as many commentators are expecting - all titles in the iPad's NYT bestsellers section are pegged at $9.99.
