iOS update: 120m devices and 6.5bn app downloads

Steve Jobs dishes out the stats at Autumn event.

Apple has sold 120 million iOS devices since the launch of its first iPhone in 2007, announced CEO Steve Jobs tonight.

That figure covers iPhones, iPod touches and iPads, and it wasn't the only big number revealed by Jobs during the company's Autumn product launch.

Apple is currently activating 230,000 new iOS devices a day, and Jobs took a potshot at Google, suggesting that the latter's recent claims of 200,000 daily Android activations included upgrades.

"People are throwing around a lot of numbers as to how many devices their operating systems are activating every day," said Jobs, his target clear.

Apple's App Store has now generated more than 6.5 billion downloads, and has 250,000 apps available - 25,000 of which are native iPad apps.
