iOS accounts for more web traffic than Macs

Is Apple releasing too many products to keep consumers hooked?

Apple's incredible fourth quarter in 2011 included 37 million iPhone sales, 15.4 million iPad sales, but just five million Mac sales. That's probably what drove iOS to overtake its desktop counterpart in terms of web traffic.

Market researcher Chitika says the gap between iOS and OS X web market shares has been narrowing since August 2011. iOS has increased by almost 50 per cent, while OS X fell by 25 per cent.

This month, iOS secured 8.15 per cent of all web traffic, while Mac OS X retains just 7.96 per cent, according to the report.

While Apple is known for committed users, Chitika says it's likely users have moved to Apple's mobile devices from Mac because of the lower cost and also to cater to the growing on-the-move lifestyle that users have.

Additionally, the research firm points out that Apple's regular product releases could be the company's downfall, prompting consumers to look elsewhere for alternative items.
