Intel: We'll find new partners for Meego

It can still be the 'third ecosystem' the operators want, says Intel CEO.

In an interview with Reuters, Paul Otellini insisted the Meego OS was still very much alive despite its erstwhile partner teaming up with Microsoft on WinPhone 7.

"We will find another partner. The carriers still want a third ecosystem and the carriers want an open ecosystem, and that's the thing that drives our motivation," he said.

He added that Nokia had little choice but to go with Microsoft because of the "incredible" amounts of money it was offered to switch.

Otellini said he would MeeGo would ultimately have been the best strategy for Nokia CEO Stephen Elop but he "he couldn't afford it."

So now the search is on for partners, with Otellini because of the historic success of open systems. "In general, if you harness the ability of all the engineers in the world and the developers in the world, open wins," he said.
