Significant move to bolster chip giant's mobile software activities.
Israel-based Telmap provides white-label location-based services to operators globally, with customers including Orange FT Group, Vodafone, Vodacom, SFR, O2, Telefonica, SingTel, Optus, Cellcom, and Pelephone.
It will now become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Intel, and should enable developers on the firm's AppUp program to enhance their apps with navigating and mapping APIs.
The Intel Blog said: "From a consumer perspective, Telmap helps bring to life our vision for integrated, uniform experiences across consumer devices. Telmap has a tremendous amount of expertise around end-to-end mobile local search, mapping and navigation services.
"But Telmap isn’t just a great consumer service provider – with Telmap we can directly provide developers with location-based services spanning devices, operating systems and CPU architectures. This is a significant step towards the Intel AppUp services vision.
"These new cross-platform location capabilities will allow developers to not just retain their users but delight them via in-app and in-experience location features that they just can’t really do today."

The deal, which was for an undisclosed amount, is similar to the deal between Nokia and Navteq, which was also completed to give developers access to mapping and navigation features.
Intel is still plugging away at its AppUp store, which is pitched at users of netbooks, tablets and MeeGo devices.
It says 807,000 applications have been downloaded and 350,000 consumers have registered to use its AppUp store.
