Instagram 100m users

More than triples its user base following Facebook acquisition in April.

Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg was rather open during his interview at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference, admitting HTML5 was the company's biggest mistake, and that it's not building a phone.

He also discussed newly acquired Instagram and said the photo-sharing app now has more than 100m users across Android and iOS, a rise on the 80m in July.

Zuckerberg, said: "They’re this super-talented bunch of engineers, they just crossed 100 million users. They’re just killing it. We want to help them grow to hundreds of millions of users."

How long will it take before the app hits the glass ceiling? It was thought an expansion to Windows Phone was on the cards, but the talk was smashed yesterday.

Facebook made the bid for the image startup back in April when it had just 30m users on iOS. The rapid user surge shows the impact of the buyout and coinciding expansion to Android, suggesting a move to other OSs would continue to stimulate growth.
