Retro photo service is now registering 10 photos a second.
Instagram has become a darling of the app world, with users embracing a product that lets them take pics in grainy old-school styles.
It passed 2m users in March.
However, the product is also benefiting from the viral effect as users post their pics for others to see, and other developers use its APIs to embed Instagram in their apps.
The firm told TechCrunch that it's now ten user photos posted per second, up from six photos per second officially announced couple of months ago.
It's reached 4.25 million registered users after only seven months – and has more than 1 million users per employee.
