Infospace settles EMI ringtone dispute

InfoSpace has settled the lawsuit brought by record label EMI over ringtone royalties.

EMI’s publishing arm sued InfoSpace in January 2007 for $100 million for allegedely  breaching two ringtone licence agreements by underpaying royalties. EMI also accused InfoSpace of infringing on copyrights by making unlicensed use of songs such as John Lennon’s Imagine, and for selling ringtones in international markets without permission.

Infospace exited the mobile content business last year, and got out of mobile altogether with the sale of its infrastructure business to Motricity.

The financial terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
