Indie takes the PIAS

Indie takes the PIAS

PIAS and Indie Mobile to create one-stop mobile shop for indie labels and artists.

Pan-European indie distributer PIAS has acquired a 50 per cent stake in mobile music and marketing specialist Indie Mobile.

The investment, described as 'significant', means PIAS's network of offices can support Indie Mobile’s existing multi-territory deals with local language resource, relationships and expertise.

Indie Mobile handles around 70,000 tracks from over 400 leading independent labels in 23 territories. In addition to pumping content into operator portals, it also develops direct-to-consumer mobile marketing and retail initiatives for the labels.

Adrian Pope, PIAS Group’s director of digital and business development, said: "Mobile is already a significant part of our business. [This] deal was borne out of a mutual recognition that the synergies between Indie Mobile and PIAS were such that in combination we can create the definitive, professional mobile solution for independent labels and artists in what has historically been a confused and fragmented market."

Seth Jackson, MD of Indie Mobile, said: "The deal will allow us to do what we already do, just better and on a larger scale. We have always believed that independent music has the potential to be a significant player in the mobile arena, so we’re hugely excited by the first-class resources and fabulous roster that PIAS group provide."
