UK Textatrack service launched to allow fans to pay for full tracks using text.
To purchase a song, the user sends an SMS message and receives a download link by reply. The cost of that track is then charged to their credit or monthly bill.
For artists, the service is free to use and is recognised by the Official Chart Company, which means that all sales are counted towards the official UK charts.
Artists can also pre-release tracks, whereby users who have purchased a track on pre-release are sent a reminder SMS when the track goes on release. And there's a MySpace app so fans can buy music on the spot, without having to leave the artist's profile page.
Johnny Beirne, commercial director of Textatrack, said: "Our service is open to all, and we want to see everyone from talent show hopefuls to festival headliners using it.
"It provides the fan with the simplest payment mechanism in the market today and provides the artist with a highly portable and versatile sales channel that is UK chart recognised.”
