Talks to avert an outright ban on RIM's email services begin today
Officials from the Indian government and Research in Motion are meeting over the next two days to thrash out a solution to concerns over the security of BlackBerry email and IM services, reports Reuters.
For its part, the Indian government has asked RIM for access to encrypted email data, mainly so that it can keep track of any sensitive or inappropriate information exchanged over the network.
RIM has already granted Indian authorities manual access to BBM content by September 1st and automated access by November.
However, it has said it will shut down RIM's email services if the Canadian company doesn't agree to give it access to them by August 31st.
There are approximately 1 million BlackBerry subscribers in India, which obviously has the potential to become a huge market for RIM.
