GetJar is to give developers a chance to embed ads into its applications.

The app store, which generates over 20 million downloads a month, has rolled out the GetJar Ads programme to its 200,000 plus mobile application developer community.

The programme allows developers to display contextual text and banner advertising and earn click-through revenue.

Initial pilot results have been encouraging. Italy's Medieval Software said that the profits generated had covered its operating costs.

GetJar Ads is a new component of the GetJar app developer’s programme, which also offers Get Seen (developers can put their applications on GetJar for free) and Get Downloads (a Pay Per Download service with bids for better placement on the site).

“The GetJar Ads solution has been designed to provide the most profitable advertising channel available to mobile application developers, delivering a 100 per cent fill rate and high CPM,” said Ilja Laurs, CEO of GetJar.
