Startup promises "really cool" alternative to "boring keyboard/mouse" controls.
US/Indian startup iMo has unveiled beta technology that turns any iPhone or iPod touch into a wireless controller for PC games.
Shown off last night at the TechCrunch50 conference in San Francisco, iMo's software uses the Apple devices' touchscreens and accelerometers to mimic the functions of a PC joystick or joypad, sending the data to the user's PC via Wi-Fi.
"iMo is intended for the casual gaming enthusiast who deeply desires a more exciting gaming experience beyond just using the QWERTY keyboard/mouse as the game controller," says co-founder Himanshu Baweja.
"Extra hardware such as joystics cost not just in terms of money but are an extra burden during travel, storage and maintenance."
Meanwhile, the company's blurb promises that "iMo is a really cool alternative to playing PC video games using the PC's boring keyboard/mouse". However, the obvious question will be whether 'cool' equals 'better'.

iMo is currently in private beta, with the company only having been founded earlier this year. Judging by its presentation at the TC50 event (below), it has its eye on consoles as well as PC gaming.
