iLike and Sony launch music trivia iPhone game

Good news for anyone who can tell the difference between Santana and Britney Spears.

Music website iLike has launched its latest iPhone application, in partnership with major record label Sony Music Entertainment.

It's called iLike Challenge, and takes the form of a music trivia game. Users listen to clips of music by various Sony artists, and have to guess the song or artist as quickly as possible to score points.

The app is based on an existing web game, and features more than 1,000 questions spanning rock, pop, hip-hop and metal. New for iPhone is a two-player mode, played on a single device.

The game costs $2.99 in the US App Store, meaning it's providing both companies with a new revenue stream. However, there are also Buy buttons for songs, allowing users to buy the full tracks from Apple's iTunes Store.

So far, the app appears to be US-only, as it's available in the US App Store, but not the UK. Licensing issues may be the cause.

iLike is also relaunching its own Local Concerts iPhone app, and has published more than 250 artist-focused apps on the App Store too.
