With Android a particular focus for the all-new Airplay SDK 4.0.

UK firm Ideaworks Labs has unveiled the fourth generation of its Airplay SDK, which helps developers create games and apps for a range of smartphone platforms.

There is also a new business model, offering the SDK to indie developers for free if they are developing just for iPhone, with small fees on top if they then port to other smartphone platforms.

The 4.0 version of the SDK also adds Android support, which will be one of the big selling points as Ideaworks tries to convince more iPhone developers to take their games and apps to Google's smartphone OS.

"It's a key challenge for us, to engage with the App Store development community and start to pull some of those people onto other platforms," chief technology officer Tim Closs tells ME.
