I-play launches Hip Hop All Star for iPhone

And it's one of the first iPhone music games to let players buy additional tracks.

I-play has launched its latest iPhone game, Hip Hop All Star, a rhythm music title that makes innovative use of new features in the iPhone 3.0 software.

As its name implies, the game is hip hop focused, with licensed tracks from the likes of Busta Rhymes, Kid Cudi and Jason Nevins. Players touch and scratch virtual turntables.

And those new features? Players can compete in multiplayer battles via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, unlocking in-game virtual items while bragging about their skills on Facebook.

However, it's the in-app payments that make the game stand out. I-play is making more tracks available to buy and download, kicking off with the two-song Hip Hop All Star Track Pack, which costs $0.99.

"The micro-transactions keep the game fresh by offering players an entirely new experience with each purchase," says Don Ryan, COO of I-play's parent company Oberon Media.

Hip Hop All Star is one of the first iPhone music games to offer paid-for downloads. Tapulous' Tap Tap Revenge has made tracks available for in-game download for some time now, but they have been free.

However, in-app payments are expected to play a role in its upcoming Tap Tap Revenge 3.
