Exec suggests providing accessories doesn't guarantee sales.
Struggling Android vendor HTC acquired a 51 per cent majority share in Beats Audio for $300 million last year, which led to a string of Beats-based phones being launched.
Now, CNET reports the HTC Rezound could be the last device to come complete with Beats headphones.
Martin Fichter, product executive, HTC, says: "An accessory like the headphone doesn't factor in when someone is buying a smartphone. If they want a Beats headphone, they'll buy it directly."
The announcement comes as HTC sales fell by 35 per cent in Q1 as the firm fails to keep up with rival Android phone maker Samsung. Presumably, it's this that has made HTC realise that the headphones aren't enough to sate consumer needs.
Of course, it does make one ponder what exactly the phone maker will do with its part ownership of Beats. Fichter claims the firm will continue to use the audio tech within the phones, while accessories will fall on the back burner.
